Now that fall is officially here, we like to bring out the books to help us get into the mood. One of our favorites is  Too Many Pumpkins, by Linda White. It tells a story of a lady who hates pumpkins because she was practically raised on them. A pumpkins drops from a truck one day into her yard and she ends up with too many pumpkins growing all over and has to find something to do with them so she bakes until her kitchen is full of goodies.
Ian found a lone can of pumpkin leftover from last year’s thanksgiving, in the pantry. So we did our best to bake like Rebecca Estelle and made 1 pumpkin pie, 1 pumpkin molasses spice cake and 1 loaf of pumpkin bread out of 1 large can of pumpkin. I have to stay that the scene in the kitchen on this particular day was not as cheerful as the pictures imply. There were children who did not want to bake and a mom who was cranky. In the end they all had a turn helping and I was able to finish the bread on my on in peace. My plans to spend quality time together don’t always work out the way I envision them, but I learn from these times. I am already looking back on this day and can laugh just a bit. Life is just that way.
